Childhood adversity, supportive relationships and our beliefs

05 October 2017

The aim of this research is to investigate how common it is for children and young adolescents to be approached by an adult in a sexual manner, either through the internet, in person or by telephone. I am also interested in whether this experience, along with other forms of childhood abuse or adversity, affects what a person believes about themselves, the world and other people. I am also interested in whether having supportive relationships in childhood is influential.

About the researcher

My name is Kirsty Alderson and I'm a PhD student at the University of Central Lancashire. I'm trying to create a model which identifies the vulnerability and protective factors which influence whether someone experiences difficulties following childhood adversity. I've chosen to look at sexual exploitation, as well as other forms of abuse. I would be so grateful for any help, and I thank you in advance for those who decide to participate.
