Metaphor familiarity and aptness

We are interested in native and nonnative English speakers' understanding and familiarity with various metaphors—expressions like ‘Life is a journey’. This study asks you to rate different sentences in order to evaluate the degree of metaphor familiarity and aptness perceived by speakers of English and speakers of Spanish. For every item, you will be asked two questions: 1) how familiar the sentence sounds; and 2) how well you think that the word in parenthesis is described by the sentence.

About the researcher
I am Pablo Aros, a PhD student in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching at the university of Nottingham, UK. My main interest is the processing of metaphors in Spanish speakers studying in British Universities. I am also interested in other aspects of non-literal language processing in English as a second language.
