Are you a mother with no current relationship with your own mother?

01 August 2019

Until recently, there has been limited research focusing on family estrangement. This study therefore seeks to explore the experiences of adult daughters who do not have an ongoing relationship with their mother, which may or may not be through their own choice, and who have become or are mothers themselves.

  • Female and over 18 years old
  • You have had no relationship with you biological mother for a minimum of 2 years
  • You are also a mother to one or more children (under 21 years old)
  • You are having counselling at present OR have had a period of counselling about the relationship with your mother
  • p.s. if you submit your email address to participate, please check your junk folder.

About the researcher

I am a student at the Metanoia Institute studying for a doctorate in counselling psychology and psychotherapy. I have knowledge and insight into experiences of family estrangement, both personally and professionally.

It is hoped that what emerges from this study will be of interest to Psychotherapists, Counselling Psychologists and other clinical practitioners who work with individuals and families who are experiencing estrangement.

I would like to hear about your experience and therefore, I invite you to have a one to one conversation with me. This meeting can take place at a time and location agreed by us both.

This research is being supervised and overseen by Dr Lucy Blake.
