What role does Exercise play in the Ageing brain?

We are investigating the effect of exercise on brain health in ageing, does exercise change the way the brain ages? We are looking for healthy men over 70 years old who either do NOT exercise regularly, or power athletes/sprinters. It is a multi-day study involving exercise tests, cognitive tests, and MRI scans of the brain, heart, and body.


  • Male
  • 70 to 80 years old
  • Healthy
  • MRI safe - no metal in the body
  • Non-exercisers: less than 7000 steps a day and little to no cardio
  • Exercisers: Very active sprinters/power athletes

This study has been reviewed and given approved by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Research Ethics Committee, University of Nottingham.
