European citizens' journey to British citizenship

08 June 2017

This research looks at how EU citizens experience the process of acquiring British citizenship.
I would like to learn about the different reasons that lead people to consider getting British citizenship or, alternatively, why those who could become British, decide not to.
To what extent people that acquire British citizenship feel British? How do they feel about their citizenship and origin after acquiring a new one?
What was the entire experience like?

About the researcher

My name is Marianela Barrios Aquino. I am in the second year of my PhD studies at the University of Sussex. I am originally from Paraguay and also have Spanish citizenship. I have always been interested in Migration Studies and this time I am happy to be able to carry out my research in this field.
I am currently studying the experiences of EU migrants with the UK naturalisation process. That is why I need the help of those who have had any experience in that process by having applied for British citizenship, or thinking of applying or currently being in the process of applying.
If you could help me or if you know someone who could, I would be delighted. The way you can help me is by letting me interview you and ask you questions about your experiences. The interview should not take longer than 1 hour and can take place in a place and at a time of your convenience.
I speak English, German, Portuguese and Spanish, so the interview can be in any of those languages if you feel more comfortable in any of them.
