Psychological Impact of Retirement

This longitudinal study will follow a cohort of individuals from pre-retirement working life through to 12 months post-retirement. The aim is to understand the impact of retirement on individuals' psychological wellbeing, and to explore whether this is impacted by job control, job satisfaction and psychological flexibility. In the long-term, the researcher hopes to enable organisations to better support and prepare their employees for retirement.

The study has full ethical approval from The University of Edinburgh (School of Health in Social Science) Ethics Committee, and from NHS Dumfries & Galloway Research & Development Support Unit.

About the researcher

The researcher is a Trainee Clinical Psychologist and Doctoral candidate with a special interest in life transitions for older adults.
