Autism within mainstream schools: Is it beneficial for women with ASD
17 April 2020
This project will look at how mainstream schooling affects the educational and emotional development of women with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD), by investigating the mental health and educational levels of women who attended mainstream schools. As we are interested in women with varying levels of ASD symptoms, we are contacting women both with and without diagnoses of ASD.

About the researcher
I am currently doing an MSc in Developmental Psychology at the University of Dundee. Having a daughter with ASD and a son with Asperger’s has made me interested in research that has been carried out with people who have ASD. Research suggests that young girls with ASD experience poorer mental health and educational outcomes than girls without a diagnosis of ASD. Having seen the limited research that has been carried out with women with ASD and having watched my daughter with ASD struggle through primary and into high school, I am interested in continuing this research to help create awareness around this issue.
