Cosmetic procedures within the private sector

Despite the increasing numbers of people choosing to have a cosmetic procedure, surprisingly little research has been conducted to examine people’s motivations and expectations for undergoing a cosmetic procedure. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the psychological characteristics of people presenting for a cosmetic procedure.


  • Must be seeking a cosmetic procedure now or in the future
  • Adult over the age of 18 years
  • Must be living in the United Kingdom

Ethical approval

Ethical approval to conduct the study was granted by the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences IRB at the University of the West of England.
