Investigating the role of attention and how it affects every day perception

The experiment comprises of 2 computerised experiments, which take 15 minutes each (30 minutes in total). Both experiments consist of you looking for a target item on the screen and deciding as quickly as you can whether it is there or not.

The 3 experiments differ in the sort of targets you will be looking for. In addition, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire before the experiment.


  • age: 18+
  • males and females
  • all participants should have normal to corrected vision
  • Participants should be free from any physical or sensory impairment
  • Exclusion criteria
  • absence of any form of:
  • Cognitive deficit
  • Mental illness or taking drugs
  • Suffering from high anxiety
  • Taking beta blockers
  • heart problems
  • clinical sleeping disorders (i.e parasomnia), obstructive sleep apnoea,
  • Epilepsy
  • Inability to provide consent

Ethical approval

This study has been approved by the psychology ethics committee at the University of Westminster on the 3rd of March 2020.
