Women volunteers needed to study effects of cortisol on emotional memory

You would be asked to come to UCL on a single occasion. As part of the study you watch a ‘stressful film’, take hydrocortisone or placebo and complete some questionnaires and computer tasks. You should be aware that the film contains graphic scenes including sexual and interpersonal violence which some people might find distressing. You will need to be able to fill in online diaries for one week after your session and then an online questionnaire so you must have reliable daily internet access


  •  Women who have been using a hormone contraceptive for at least one month
  •  Aged 18 – 35 years
  •  Fluent in English
  •  Do NOT have any current mental health problems
  •  Do NOT have cardio-respiratory problems or any serious medical condition
  •  Do NOT regularly use any psychoactive drugs (other than alcohol, caffeine and tobacco)
  •  Are NOT a daily smoker or drink more than 14 units of alcohol per week
  •  Please DO NOT take part if your would be particularly distressed by graphic scenes of sexual and interpersonal violence or feel faint at the sight of blood
  •  (Please note that these are not the only criteria for taking part and we will need to ask you some questions over the telephone to confirm you are eligible to take part)
