Iraqi Women Wellbeing and the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK
07 November 2017
This research focuses on the Iraqi women diaspora in Hull/UK and their families in terms of their health needs and the barriers they face to get a doctor’s appointment. Barriers faced could be their lack of English language skills, cultural taboos such as being attended to by a male doctor or nurse, and difficulty of understanding the complex NHS corresponding. Focusing on issues of religion, gender and language, this research aims to unpack these barriers and suggest changes and solutions.
