The effect of consuming pectin fibre on health and wellbeing

Previous research has shown that the types of bacteria that reside in your gut as well as the chemicals that they produce can have an effect on inflammation and cardiovascular health. The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of consuming different doses of pectin fibre (found in citrus fruit) on your health and wellbeing by changing the composition of the bacteria that reside within the gut.

Requirements

  • Males and females aged over 18 years of age
  • BMI between 20 and 40kg/m2
  • Must be healthy (have no medical conditions or need to take medications)
  • Non smokers (includes the use of e-cigarettes, nicotine patches or nicotine gum)
  • No gastrointestinal disorders, including IBS
  • Not currently dieting to reduce or control weight using meal replacements
  • Not following a prescription or restrictive diet such as low FODMAP
  • No food sensitivities or allergies
  • Not pregnant or breast feeding
