The ChANgE Study: Chewing, Adult Neurogenesis and Energy Restriction

26 February 2018

Hippocampal neurogenesis is the production of new brain cells, or neurons, in the area of your brain that is responsible for memory – called the hippocampus. Increases in this process may help to improve memory function. This study will investigate whether an intermittent energy restricted diet (e.g. 5:2 diet) and/or chewing can increase markers of adult hippocampal neurogenesis and a protein called Klotho which is associated with delayed ageing.
